The Descartes Systems Group acquired Chilean logistics platform Drivin for USD 30 million, extending the transaction into Ecuador through Drivin's local operation.

Ecuador Footprint

Drivin arrived in Ecuador at the end of 2017 through an alliance with Smart Cargo, an Ecuadorian GPS-tracking venture.

At the end of 2020, Drivin acquired part of Smart Cargo's operation and created Drivinec as a local independent operation structured as an SAS before the Superintendence of Companies.

The Ecuador operation serves more than 30 corporate clients, plus small and medium-sized companies, across consumer goods, food and beverages, retail, pharmaceuticals and logistics operators. Named clients include Pronaca, La Fabril, Bimbo, Duragas, and Moderna.

Revenue Signal

Company-superintendency information showed sales of USD 615,000, up from USD 273,000 in 2021.

The company expects an initial transition in which the brand coexists as Drivin + Descartes.

What To Watch

Watch whether Descartes uses the Ecuador base to expand route optimization, delivery traceability and vehicle-control services into larger local accounts. The near-term signal is continuity; the medium-term question is whether consolidation accelerates logistics-technology adoption.
