Ecuador and Canada are scheduled to sign a free trade agreement on July 24, 2026, according to Vice Minister of Export Promotion and Investment Roger Crespo.

The signing is expected to take place in Canada. Crespo described the agreement as an important step in the bilateral relationship and said Canada is a strategic market for Ecuador’s export offering.

Negotiation Status

Ecuador and Canada closed negotiations on the agreement on February 2, 2025. In May 2025, the two countries also signed a joint declaration to accelerate the agreement’s execution.

Officials have not yet provided the final signing details or full implementation terms. The Ministry of Production said further details could emerge during the week.

Sectors Identified By Authorities

Authorities have cited floriculture, food, tuna, textiles, auto parts, ceramics, footwear, wood, juices and pulps, cosmetics, plastics, hats, and tagua among the sectors expected to benefit from preferential Canadian-market access.

The government has also identified agricultural and family-farming sensitivities around rice, dairy, corn, sugar, pork, beef, and poultry.

What To Watch

  • The final text and implementation timetable after the July 24 signing.
  • Product-specific market-access rules for Ecuadorian exporters.
  • The treatment of sensitive agricultural products named by the government.
  • Any investment or trade-facilitation measures announced alongside the agreement.
