Manabí Targets 8,000 Bovines In Cattle-Genetics Program
Manabí is expanding a cattle-genetics program aimed at improving productivity in the province's livestock sector.
The program uses fixed-time artificial insemination and targets more than 8,000 bovines. It is expected to directly and indirectly benefit 1,500 livestock producers.
Operating Model
The strategy is part of the Escuelas del Productor Ganaderas program of the Manabí Prefecture.
Producers receive practical training through 34 livestock producer schools, using an "Aprender Haciendo" methodology.
The program includes artificial-insemination protocols, reproductive diagnosis by ultrasound, pregnancy control, and ongoing technical support.
Field Rollout
Initial interventions are underway in several points of the province. At the Simón Bolívar Livestock Producer School in La Mocora, Colón parish, Portoviejo, technicians inseminated six cows after synchronization.
The strategy also advanced at the Zapallo school in Flavio Alfaro and at Puerto Conguillo in Pichincha canton, where specialists used ultrasounds before applying the procedure.
For agribusiness readers, the signal is a public-sector push toward technical assistance, reproductive planning, and genetic improvement in a key coastal livestock province.
