Faszina Says Ecuador Supplies 50% of Its Exotic-Fruit Import Volume
Ecuador is becoming a core supplier for a Barcelona-based exotic-fruit importer.
El Universo reports that Faszina Selected, part of Grupo Frutas Antonio, says Ecuador now represents 50% of its purchase volume.
The company imports Ecuadorian products including pitahaya, granadilla, maracuya, guanabana, zapote, tomate de arbol, orito, pepino melon, achotillo and mango, according to the report.
Reported Supply Metrics
| Metric | Reported Detail |
|---|---|
| Ecuador share of Faszina import volume | 50% |
| Weekly pallets from Ecuador | 80-120 |
| Exotic references from Ecuador | About 50 |
| First Ecuador import | Late 2024 |
| Ecuador sourcing trip | November 2025, about 15 days |
| Typical harvest-to-receipt window | 5 days by air |
Marc Perals, responsible for Faszina, told El Universo that the company began working with tropical and exotic products in 2024 and saw a 2025 boom in exotic fruits, pushed largely by social media.
The report says Faszina uses air transport because it gives the company greater control, with fruit received about five days after harvest and packing.
Distribution Channel
El Universo reports that Faszina distributes through Mercabarna in Barcelona, supplying other European wholesalers, supermarkets and stores.
The article also says Faszina buys from Panama, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Kenya, in addition to Ecuador.
Perals said Ecuadorian imports are more regular and stable throughout the year than some alternatives, according to El Universo.
What To Watch
- Whether air-freighted Ecuadorian exotics sustain 80-120 weekly pallets outside peak demand periods.
- Product expansion beyond fresh fruit into frozen or alternative formats.
- Sanitary and legal access constraints for products entering Spain.
- Role of Agro Natural Resources, which the report names as the contact point for producers interested in submitting proposals.
