ITT Equipment Failure Cut Output to About 15,000 Barrels a Day
A fuse failure in ITT processing automation disrupted production from September 6, according to reporting updated September 9. Output fell from about 40,000 to 15,000 barrels per day.
The latest operating report cited in the coverage was dated September 8, when 104 wells remained closed. Petroecuador's total output had recovered to 360,858 barrels per day, after falling to 344,325 during the disruption. Those figures are dated observations; they do not establish Thursday's production level.
The operating signal
The episode illustrates why production monitoring needs both field-level and company-wide data. A recovery in the aggregate does not, on its own, demonstrate that the affected field has returned to normal. Likewise, an equipment incident does not establish a lasting change in productive capacity.
