Tanergy Group Wins $13.16M Ecuador Diesel-Generation Lease
Ecuador has secured the first award in a small thermal-generation rental package designed for the late-2026 dry season.
Primicias reports that Celec's Termopichincha unit awarded the 10 MW Guangopolo diesel-generation lease to Tanergy Group for $13.16 million on May 26, 2026.

The Guangopolo contract is the smallest of five rental processes launched in April 2026. Primicias reports that larger or parallel processes have faced delays: the 50 MW Pascuales process was declared void and relaunched, while 15 MW Jaramijo and 25 MW Miraflores processes were also declared void. A 45 MW Santa Elena process remained delayed at the time of reporting.
Procurement Signal
The award shows the government can execute smaller thermal-rental contracts faster than larger emergency packages, but the scale is limited. A 10 MW lease is useful at the margin; it does not materially close the system's dry-season reserve challenge by itself.
For suppliers, the result also confirms that mobilization speed can outweigh a lower production-price offer. Primicias reports Tanergy won with the best 60-day startup proposal, even though another bidder offered cheaper fixed and variable production pricing.
What To Watch
- Whether the contract is signed without further procurement challenges.
- Startup timing against the August-September 2026 operating window.
- Whether Pascuales, Jaramijo, Miraflores and Santa Elena are awarded before the dry season.
- Diesel fuel logistics and variable-generation costs once the plant enters operation.
